Advancing Dementia Care Through Insight and Experience

305 West End attends the 1st annual CaringKind Dementia Education Conference, helping advance dementia care through insight and experience

Progress in dementia care is driven not only by research, but by a willingness to listen, learn, and continually refine how we support those living with memory loss.

That spirit was evident at CaringKind’s 1st Annual Dementia Education Conference, held at the New York Academy of Medicine. The event, moderated by actor and activist David Hyde Pierce, convened a wide range of voices, from clinicians and researchers to care partners and individuals living with dementia, creating a meaningful forum for shared learning and thoughtful dialogue.

Mark Paretti, Vice President of Resident Experience for 305 West End Assisted Living, reflected on the significance of the gathering:

“This conference, the first of its kind by CaringKind, provided a great learning opportunity for professionals, caregivers, and people living with dementia alike. It was an excellent chance for our team to further strengthen their skills and deepen their empathy and understanding when supporting residents and families we care for each day.”

Among those in attendance was Trish Valenzuela, Director of Reflections at 305 West End Assisted Living, alongside fellow leaders from sister communities of The Bristal Assisted Living. Together, they engaged in dialogue about emerging best practices, innovative approaches to care, and an evolving understanding of what it means to support individuals and families navigating dementia.

For Ms. Valenzuela, the experience reinforced both responsibility and opportunity:

“Attending events like this is an important part of my role… as it allows me to stay informed on best practices and innovative approaches in dementia care… and bring back meaningful insights that I can share with my team and incorporate into our daily work with residents.”

At 305 West End, Reflections memory care is thoughtfully designed to support individuals living with Alzheimer’s and related dementias through personalized engagement, structured yet flexible routines, and an environment that prioritizes dignity, comfort, and connection. Each day is shaped around the individual, honoring personal history, preferences, and moments that bring meaningful engagement.

“This experience directly benefits our residents and their families by enhancing the quality of care we provide… by applying what I’ve learned… we can continue to create a more compassionate, supportive, and enriching environment.”

With more than four decades of leadership in Alzheimer’s and dementia caregiving, CaringKind’s mission, to ensure that no one navigating dementia does so alone, resonates strongly within our own philosophy of care.

Participation in gatherings like this reflects a broader commitment to remain at the forefront of dementia care through ongoing education, collaboration, and thoughtful leadership.

At 305 West End, that commitment is reflected each day, in the connections we foster, the dignity we uphold, and the care we provide.
